Description
Meet the "Chair Louis" by Eichholtz, a timeless masterpiece inspired by the opulent fauteuil from Louis XVI's Salon des Jeux at Saint Cloud, as detailed by The Metropolitan Museum of Art. This chair, with its antique gold finish and sentier cream upholstery, pays homage to the grandeur of the 18th-century originals. With dimensions of 71.5 cm in width, 65.5 cm in depth, and 111 cm in height, it offers both elegance and comfort. The Chair Louis captures the essence of the era with its neoclassical design and intricate carvings, inviting you to indulge in the luxury of history and artistry.

HISTORIC PROVENANCE

The Chair Louis is a faithful reproduction of an ornate and formal straight-backed armchair (1788), or fauteuil, crafted by Georges Jacob (French, 1739–1814), one of France’s most successful chair-makers of the 18th century. The Met’s chair is part of a larger set of furniture described in the 1789 inventory of Château de Saint Cloud on the outskirts of Paris. The set was commissioned for Louis XVI’s gaming room, known as the Salon des Jeux. With its rectilinear frame, scrolled arm supports, and carved legs, the Museum’s chair exemplifies neoclassicism. This reproduction has been crafted with a fine antiqued gold finishe and sentier cream fabric.

Care instructions

HOW TO CARE FOR FURNITURE WITH FABRIC UPHOLSTERY

Whether or not your upholstered furnishings are purely decorative or both functional and stylish, careful cleaning and maintenance of the fabric grants long term satisfaction.

To fully enjoy your fabric seating and ensure its longevity, please follow a few basic rules:

  • Don’t place your seating near a fireplace that’s in use.
  • Avoid exposure to excessive sunlight.
  • Be careful with jeans that can transfer colour onto the fabric: this may be unfixable.
  • Don’t expose your seating to scratches from pets or sharp objects (e.g. studs, buckles).
Cleaning & Maintenance

Routine maintenance helps keep your upholstered furniture in perfect condition. Vacuum clean the upholstery regularly to keep the fabric in good shape and prevent dust, hair and crumbs from settling into the body of the furniture. Be careful with fringes and tassels: vacuum clean them only with low power.

Remove spills and other accidental stains as soon as possible, but never with harsh soaps or detergents. In the case of an old and dried up stain, the first step is always vacuuming.

For stain removal use a specialized stain cleaner such as HG stain remover or a similar product. Follow the instruction on the packaging and always try the solution on an inconspicuous part of the upholstery before using it on a more noticeable portion.

To maintain the original softness and resilience of the cushions, hand fluff and reverse the cushions regularly.
